나는 인간 본연의 몸, 즉 남녀의 조화로운 상태를 미술의 방법을 통해서 회복하려 한다. 내 작업에서 “인온(絪縕, Intermingling)”은 동시성으로 구현된다. 인온은 상반된 기운이 한 덩어리로 엉켜 혼돈하며 곧 만물을 탄생시키려는 상태이다. 그 혼돈에서 ‘창의력’의 조건을 상반된 기운이 한데 엉킨데 에서 ‘상상력’의 활기를 이끌어낼 수 있다. 그 상반된 기운의 상호작용이 바로 ‘동시성’이다. 내 그림에서 남성과 여성은 이원성(Duality)을 상징한다. sex와 gender로서의 남녀의 개념일 뿐 아니라. 정신과 물질, 유기적인 것과 기계적인 것, 음과 양 등 대립 항을 이루어 존재하는 것들의 의미를 더불어 내포한다. 즉 남성과 여성은 이원성의 양극을 대변하며 나는 이러한 이원적 상호관계의 상징적 표현에 집중한다. 본질적으로 서로 대립하지만 필연적으로 갈망하고 갈등, 공존할 수밖에 없는 존재하는 모든 것들의 관계의 작용을 회화적 도상으로 표현하고자 한다. 나는 몸과 회화를, 상반된 특성들 간의 충돌과 대비가 통합되는 유기적 실체로 본다. 나는 그 실체를 통해 세상과 호흡한다.


“Intermingling”

This work purposes to illuminate the artistic characteristic of my painting series "Duality" including the concept of "intermingling(絪縕)" and my tryout to pictorial study of body. The human figures in my painting are expressed as two contrary sexual characteristics that male and female are represented with symbolized figurative. The comparison implies a Duality: male vs. female. The duality implied with the bodies in painting covers all of things as perceptible beings like spirit vs. matter, organic vs. mechanical, yin vs. yang, etc. Male and female are extremely contrasted each other, meanwhile both of them concentrate on the complementary relation. With the symbolic grammar of art, I am researching the relations among all of things that desire and coexist one another. My artistic creation is aimed at the expression of the order of the dualism.
